The prevention and control of crime in the community are the principal aims of formal government agencies in society. Various institutional challenges have contributed to the inability of the police to provide adequate security of lives and property have birthed the establishment of various informal security outfits (vigilantes). The study examined the involvement of vigilantes in crime prevention in the Akinyele Local Government Area of Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. It examined operational guidelines through the existing policy thrust guiding the vigilantes.

Besides, it has opened the developing economies to attacks from the developed and emerging economies. Small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria have been confronted with an increasingly competitive environment due to globalization and liberalization of trade. This study therefore, seeks to examine the impact of Globalization on the Development of Small and Medium Scale enterprises in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City.
Although it is generally believed that celebrity endorsement has an impact on advertising effectiveness brand awareness, brand recall, buying intention and buying behaviour, the impact remains to a large extent, understudied. This research therefore seeks to thoroughly investigate the impact of celebrity endorsements on consumers’ perception of Munch It in Benin metropolis. To achieve the objectives of the study, two research questions were formulated and guided the study. The study adopted the source credibility theory to explain the topic under investigation.

The years-long sexual harassment of female students in Nigerian universities constitutes a serious form of gender-based violence that university administrators appear to have failed in addressing; this was explained by applying the feminist and deterrence theories. The paper revealed that while social control mechanisms exist at Nigerian universities to handle female sexual harassment, there are still considerable issues with their efficiency.
Contraception is the use of medications, instruments or surgery employed to change the way human body works and prevent pregnancy. This study examined undergraduates’ perception of contraceptives use in Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Edo state, Nigeria. The objectives of study were to examine the relationship between poor access to contraceptives and peer pressure in relation to contraceptive use among students. The paper adopted functionalist theory to explain the subject matter. This study employed ex-post facto research design method.

Relying on a careful analysis of an assemblage of secondary data sourced primarily from journal articles, books, newspapers and the internet, the paper explains why intelligence gathering in Nigeria is not working.
The roles of men in the family and society have been viewed as natural and ungendered. This has led to the overlooking, howbeit critically, of men and men related issues. In addition, recent clamouring by women’s movements for equal rights has opened way to a constant challenge of traditional male roles. Thus, the emergence of new models and structures of power for men as the roles that make them leaders in the home are being stripped away.
This research looked at the relationship between poverty and child labour in Iyaero Community, Benin City, Edo State. The study objectives were to determine the influence of poverty on child labour and to identify the roles that social workers may play in poverty reduction and child labour eradication in the community. The study was conducted using a descriptive survey research approach.
Sexual violence is a global challenge for women and girls, though largely underreported. Particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, 33% of women experience forms of intimate partner violence, including sexual violence, at least once in their lifetime, compared to 27% globally. Socio-economic factors such as poverty, age, disability and substance abuse also exacerbate the risk of sexual violence. Studies on sexual violence in Nigeria suggest that this endemic is mainly experienced by young females, who rarely report and often do not receive the required support for their recovery.
Human trafficking is a universal social problem that has become challenging to curb. It no doubt violates the fundamental human rights of its predominantly female victims. Research consistently highlights girls as the main targets of a variant of trafficking it termed sex trafficking. In Nigeria, lax border control amplifies the problem, turning human trafficking into a lucrative business. Investigating the aftermath of sex trafficking, this study examines the intricate connections between abusive exploitation and the mental well-being of young women survivors in Benin City.
This paper investigates the relationship between good governance and the poor state of sustainable development in Nigeria using regression analysis. The research design used in this study is Ex post facto. This study uses secondary data from reputable sources such as the World Bank, the United Nations, and the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics. The dataset includes governance indicators and sustainable development metrics for Nigeria from 2010 to 2020.
Although workplace grievances are normal occurrences, the problem lies with the attitude towards such grievances. Since management-labour interplay has a lot of impact on organizational growth and development, an understanding of the purpose of each other and the ability to effectively communicate with each other is required. An organization grows and develops in an atmosphere of relative peace and stability; and this requires that management must act responsibly, while workers behave reasonably for the organization to be able to meet its set objectives.
In the past 5 decades, the petroleum industry has been the mainstay of the survival of Nigeria, providing livelihood for people, sustenance for government and the economy as well as resources for development. However in recent years, they have been decline in capital inflow. Of the $70billion oil and gas foreign investment in Africa, between 2015 and 2019, for instance, only $2.8 billion came to Nigeria. This was attributed to obsolete laws, government unfriendly business policies in the industry, oil-firm based and community based challenges.
This study looks at the sociocultural elements that influence how medical professionals treat victims of violence against women. The study used a desk-based library technique to analyze secondary data, based on the qualitative research methodology. According to the study’s findings, Nigerian culture’s patriarchal structure, in addition to other factors like economics and education, all support men’s continued control and dominance over women.

Crime is one of the social ills among rural populace, globally. Studies have focused on modern crime management agencies, particularly among people living in urban centers. However, little attention has been given to traditional crime management institutions in rural areas, as if crime is an urban problem. Therefore, the study was designed to investigate the perception of traditional institutions in crime management and prevention among the rural communities of Etung in Cross River State, Nigeria. The Social Control and General Systems theories provided the framework.

Since the inception of this phenomenon, agricultural productivity has declined as farmers cannot cultivate or harvest crops from their farms.

Cyber-crime is a criminal activity that is involves using computers and its related devices for fraudulent activities. Cybercrime results in the loss of lives, properties, business investments all over the world. Hence, this study assessed community vigilante and cybercrime control in the selected communities in the Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria. The research design was descriptive, correlational in nature. Data was collected through primary and secondary sources. The study was conducted among the youths, community leaders and traditional leaders.
Insecurity is pervasive in Nigeria and it affects everyone. This article based on desk information examines the unique security threats that affect women in Nigeria and how women promote insecurity and criminality. It reveals that women as victims or symbols of insecurity are disproportionately affected by security threats such as ritual practices, human trafficking, sexual violence and situations of conflicts and complex emergencies compared to men.

In Nigeria, one of the main reasons for marital dissolution and divorce is migration across international borders involving one of the spouses, particularly in Ibadan, Oyo State, with a significant number of left-behind spouses. Although, extant studies on left-behind spouses have focused largely on the effects of remittances on left-behind spouses, their challenges and coping mechanisms appears poorly captured especially within the context of hybridized societies where Ibadan gives an exceptional opportunity to fully capture in totality the domains of the left-behind spouses.
In many African societies, a premium is placed on having biological children as proof of fertility. Couples unable to reproduce sometimes “harvest” babies from “baby factory” a term coined by the Nigerian media as a subset of child trafficking. Existing literature have examined baby factory practices and its causes with little attention paid to the gender context of the media reportage. This study, therefore, investigated the gender nuances in the print media reportage of baby factory in southeastern Nigeria and the responses of journalists toward the phenomenon.

Suicide is simply defined as intentional action or inaction carried out with the intent to inflict fatal harm or injury on oneself. The word suicide originates from two Latin words ‘sui’ meaning “self” and ‘caedes’ meaning “murder”. The word suicide first appeared in Sir Thomas Browne’s book ‘religio medici’ first published in the 17th century. The actual usage of the term suicide was to distinguish between accidental death and intentional self-harm leading to death. Depression is one of the frequently diagnosed mental illnesses.
