The cultural particularism that charity begins at home underscores the role of the family as agent of socialization accountable for raising noble wards. That once esteemed role now ares the trappings of change. The institution of the family has been altered owing to flurry of change provoked by modernization. The family is losing it control in modeling value driven behaviour in the society. This tendency of causal relationship is predictable and addresses futuristic realisms. Ab initio, strong and positiveparenting, bequeath a desirable family legacy observable in children’s behaviour but in contemporary time has shifted. Taking a historical perspective; traditional family ties hinges on authority structure with the father as the head, but material necessity has taken over parental attention and the media have assumed the role in modern times. This paper argues therefore that the functionalism of yestertide has given way to the anomaly that characterizes the modern era of exogenous and endogenous change. Composite cultural and family values have been replaced by barefaced crave for material-wealth and economic-power.The paper explains how change has impacted the family/parenting in the society today and how children substitute personal objective for value. The contemporary sociological theory-symbolic interactionism-the looking glass self bears responsibility of adequacy to explain the nature of this change.
