SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS AND QUALITY EDUCATION IN NIGERIA A STUDY OF JERE KAGARKO LOCAL GOVERNMENT 2017 2024

The study focuses on examining the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in peace building initiatives within the context of Nigeria, with a specific case study of Action Aid International in Katsina State. Against the backdrop of persistent conflict and insecurity in the region, the study aims to explore the contributions, challenges, and impact of NGO-led peace initiatives in fostering reconciliation, resilience, and sustainable peace in Katsina State. Methodologically, survey design and structured questionnaire, in-depth interview and focus group discussion were used as instrument for the collection of data. The quantitative data generated were analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential statistics the qualitative data generated from the in-depth interview were analyzed by using transcribed information. Findings of this study revealed that, conflict transformation recognizes that sustainable peace requires long-term engagement and commitment. NGOs working in Kagarko State adopt a long-term perspective by implementing multi-faceted interventions that address both immediate needs and underlying drivers of conflict. This include initiatives focused on livelihoods support, education, reconciliation, and community empowerment. Findings also reveal that Action Aid International in Katsina State offers a relevant framework for guiding the peace building initiatives of NGOs in Katsina State, Nigeria. By applying principles such as root causes analysis, inclusive engagement, long-term perspective, non-zero sum approach, and capacity building, NGOs can contribute to building sustainable peace and resilience in conflict-affected communities. The study recommends that NGOs can support capacity-building efforts in Katsina State by providing training, technical assistance, and resources to local communities, Non-governmental Organizations, and government institutions. By strengthening local capacities for conflict resolution and peacebuilding, NGOs can help foster resilience and promote sustainable peace in the region.
